Can I Get Botox and Fillers at the Same Time?

Botox® and fillers are by far the most popular cosmetic treatments in the United States. People like these cosmetic injections because they’re an effective treatment for smoothing out facial lines and wrinkles without having to take weeks off from work.

While Botox and fillers aim to restore a more youthful look, they work in different ways with different uses, and you may benefit from both injections to get the look you want.

But, can you get Botox and fillers at the same time?

At MyFaceLounge, the premium aesthetic medical spa at MyFitMed, our team of aesthetic specialists often administers Botox and fillers at the same time. We want to explain how cosmetic injections work and why we may recommend both.

Botox vs. fillers

Botox and fillers are cosmetic injections that help you fight the visual signs of aging: facial lines and wrinkles. Injections are done at the office, take an hour or less, and require little to no downtime.

Though similar in many ways, Botox and fillers work differently to address cosmetic concerns.

Botox

Botox is a neuromodulator that temporarily smooths out the lines and wrinkles in between the eyebrows, at the outer corner of the eyes, and on the forehead. These wrinkles develop from repetitive facial expressions: smiling, furrowing, and frowning.

When you smile or frown, your facial muscles create grooves that fold the skin. Over time, as your skin loses its youthful elasticity from the loss of collagen, the constant folding creates etched-in lines.

Botox temporarily stops the muscle movement that folds the skin, allowing your skin to relax and smooth out.

Fillers

Fillers are gel-like injections that fill in lines and creases around the nose and mouth. They also restore fullness to thinning lips and add volume to sunken cheeks.

The layer of fat under the skin diminishes as you get older, causing your skin to loosen and sag. These structural changes cause the lower part of the facial skin to droop, leading to lines from the nose to the outer corner of the mouth (nasolabial folds) and lines from the mouth to the chin (marionette lines).

Fillers fill-in these lines and plump up the skin to minimize the sagging.

Two treatments at one appointment

Because Botox and fillers treat different beauty concerns, it’s not unusual to benefit from both as you pursue your aesthetic goals. Before making any recommendations, our aesthetic experts complete a thorough assessment, reviewing your concerns and goals and evaluating your skin.

We discuss treatment options and create a plan that may include Botox and filler injections at the same time. During the appointment, we first clean your skin with an antibacterial agent and apply numbing lotion to minimize discomfort. We then carefully and expertly inject the medications into the skin.

Botox injections are quick and placed in precise areas to get the desired results. Our filler injections may require more time, injecting small amounts of the gel into the skin and massaging it into place until we get the right look.

What to expect after injections

You can expect some redness and swelling after Botox and filler treatment. We recommend using ice packs to reduce any discomfort. Though you can go back to work and resume most of your usual activities, you may want to take the rest of the day off following cosmetic injections to rest and recuperate.

We do request that you skip your usual exercise routine for up to two days following Botox and fillers to reduce risk of bruising

Results from fillers usually appear right away, but it may take up to 30 days until you see the full effects of your Botox injections.

How to maintain results

Botox and fillers are temporary. Results from your Botox injections may last up to four months, while fillers may last from six months to a year.

We also offer Sculptra®, a filler injection for deep wrinkles that rebuilds collagen under the skin to restore your skin’s youthful elasticity and strength. Results from Sculptra injections take time to appear, but last up to two years.

Protecting your skin from the sun can help prolong your results. You can also schedule follow-up injections as needed to maintain a youthful look.

We also offer PDO threads, microneedling, and chemical peels to help you maintain your youthful look.
